Southern Gettysburg Battlefield Hike
Adventuring is moving forward with their traditional dead-of-winter guided walking tour at Gettysburg. This year’s edition, co-sponsored with the Chrysalis Arts & Culture Group of Washington, will focus on the southern half of the battlefield, a maelstrom of destruction on July 2, 1863 that nearly ended with a Rebel victory.
Their itinerary will cover such dramatic spots as Big and Little Round Top, Devils Den, the Slaughter Pen, the Wheatfield, Stony Hill, the Peach Orchard, and Cemetery Ridge. Route will be roughly 6 miles long, mostly over rolling and muddy if not icy terrain.
Bring beverages, lunch (there will be a Sheetz pit stop), sturdy boots, layered clothing and about $12 for transportation and trip fees. We may choose to have dinner in town before returning to the DC area. We will carpool at 9:30 a.m. from the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Station.
