Sydney Degnan

Team DC sat down with Sydney Degnan, a cheerleader and volunteer with Cheer DC, to get some thoughts and perspectives of what it means to be LGBTQ+ and an active sports team member.
Team DC: How long have you played the sport or participated in the activity of your Team DC member club?
Sydney Degnan: I’ve cheered since elementary school and been in Cheer DC since September 2020. I’m a new member!
TDC: When did you first start playing/participating?
SD: Since sixth grade in 2009.
TDC: What advice do you offer LGBTQ+ youth who are interested in your sport/activity?
SD: Do what you love and love what you do. You are much stronger and more capable than you give yourself credit for.
TDC: What is your favorite part of being a member of an LGBTQ+ team?
SD: The constant vibe of positivity and creative energy. This is a very supportive and passionate team.
