Chesapeake & Potomac Softball (CAPS) logo

The Chesapeake and Potomac Softball League (CAPS) is a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization founded in 1983 to establish a friendly place for LGBTQ+ people and allies in the greater Washington/Maryland/Virginia metropolitan areas to play softball, learn and/or enhance softball skills, meet new people, and have fun!

CAPS welcomes players of all skill levels. Whether you’re a beginner or returning back to the sport, there is a team for you! We offer both recreational and competitive levels of play. We work with new players on identifying their goals and ideal team.

Summer Season

Our summer season is our largest season with over 450 members and typically runs from mid-April through mid-July. The summer season has two divisions: Open Division and Women’s+ Division.

The Open Division is open to anyone and has three subdivisions based on skill level: the Eckington, Dupont, and Capitol divisions.

The Women’s+ Division is open to cisgender women, trans men and women, and nonbinary individuals. The Women’s+ Division has two levels of play based on skill level: the Ferguson and Lessing divisions.

Teams from both Open and Women’s+ divisions can go on to compete on a national level at the Gay Softball World Series put on by the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA) aand the Women’s+ Softball World Series put on by the Amateur Sports Alliance of North America (ASANA).

Fall Season

Our Fall Season is a less relaxed, six-week season and typically played in one combined division. The fall season typically runs from mid-September through late October. Teams are drafted by the Board of Directors based on background information shared during registration with the goal of ensuring teams are balanced with regard to skill level and diversity.
