Climbing Photography, Psychology, and Wellness, Oh My!
Learn how to take awesome climbing photos, how to use your body, and how to engage with others — all to build a great climbing community!
The goal of this multi-session clinic is to engage with differing climbing communities (deaf, LGBTQ+, veteran, adaptive) to work together to provide an active climbing environment and develop skills and techniques in an inclusive space.
At this event you can learn the techniques for taking climbing photos that make your friends look like pros. Discover the strengths and challenges you and your fellow climbers may face as your bodies change due to age, injury, differing ability, or transition. Take the first steps toward vulnerability, learn to engage with others, and communicate anxiety.
The clinic sessions include:
- Workshop on photography presented by Nikki Smith—sponsored climber, professional photographer, guidebook author, and US Army veteran
- Biological changes conversation led by Grace Thompson—LGBTQ+ multi-sport athlete and co-owner of Embody Pure Fitness
- Guided discussion on vulnerability and empathy
- Sessions will be held in two hour blocks with an hour break for lunch after the first session. ASL interpretation available. Sportrock is an accessible facility. Lunch is not included.
- Your registration includes access to a pre-workshop panel discussion at REI on Friday, April 19th, at 6:30 p.m. REI is located at 201 M Street NE, Washington, DC 20002.
